Eleven fifty six is a witty, dark comedy set in the 1940s. It’s the story of Ned, a middle-aged man who has had enough of being hen-pecked by his obnoxious, authoritarian wife, Marisa. Tired of being abused, he comes up with the ultimate plan that not only will set him free but also turn him into a rich man: he decides to poison her.
It is almost midnight. The substance will start kicking in any time. He decides to reveal her his glorious plan and enjoy her desperate last minutes. But the woman, a temperamental, workaholic, still won’t listen to him!
The film plays with the 1940s/1950s style, using witty dialogue and subverting a genre to produce comedy. And it ends with an unexpected twist.
